John Keen has been a professional photographer since 1970.
Originally from Ackerman, Mississippi and having grown up in Leland, Mississippi, John majored in art at Delta State University. He served as a photographer in the U.S. Navy during the Vietnam War and graduated from the U.S. Naval School of Photography in Pensacola, Florida. After serving in the Navy for four years, John returned home and worked as a staff photographer for two summers at the Delta Democrat Times. He graduated from the Art Institute of Atlanta in 1975 with a degree in photography. John then worked at Emory University near Atlanta as a photographer in the Medical Photography and Illustration Department. In 1976 John returned to the Delta and he and his wife, Sharon (Sam) opened John Keen Photography at its present location in 1980. Much of the work of the studio has been portraits and weddings but John's work has appeared in numerous magazines and on album and CD covers. It is estimated that John has photographed between 700 and 800 weddings since 1973. He and Sam have been married since 1976. John's other interests include kayaking, canoeing, camping and backpacking. He also is a part-time musician, playing keyboard and drums. |
